I am Forester through and through. I was born at the Dilke. I grew up in Ruardean. I have been a Councillor on the Forest of Dean District Council for 28 years. I have seen our vital services cut to the bone and taken out of local control. Housing, environmental protection, planning and consumer protection are all run at a distance; not by your local elected councillors. I have been the Leader of the Labour Group for the last 6 years. We have lead the way in fighting to protect our diminishing local services and to protect our Beautiful Forest of Dean from Fracking. I am standing for election as your County Councillor to stand up for Drybrook and Lydbrook and for the sort of opportunities and services for our grandchildren, that I enjoyed at their age. We can do better but we need to invest in opportunities and communities not cut services. For your sake and the sake of the children and the elderly vote LABOUR on May 4th.
Five Acres College Campus
The Forest campus of Gloucestershire College is moving to Cinderford. The Five Acres site should provide enormous opportunities for local services not private profit. I will work with West Dean, Coleford and other town and parish councils to maximise community benefits.
Care For Our Elderly
We need to get it right for our growing population of elderly people. It is economic madness and cruel for elderly people to be stuck in hospital beds due to the lack of community services and support. Health and social care must work together!
A Strong Start For Every Child
Prevention is better than cure. Children’s safety and wellbeing must be a priority. Early intervention is essential to prevent problems escalating. Labour would reverse the cuts to children centres and support schools so that parents and children receive support when needed.
