Deb Oliver. Labour Candidate for the Sling and Ellwood Parish Cllr By-election: September 7th
I have lived in the Forest of Dean for over 17 years. I live with my partner Ian, I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. I love living in the Forest and would never live anywhere else.
I have worked for the NHS for 37 years, 30 years as a midwife. It has been my privilege to care for many babies and families across the Forest including Ellwood and Sling. Through my work, I have an understanding of the issues that affect families and a commitment to continue to serve.
Working for the NHS over many years I have seen lots of changes, I believe that the NHS is the Labour Party’s greatest achievement and that health and social care should remain local and within the community
I was a Parent Governor at Lakers School, until my daughter left school. I passionately believe that every child deserves the very best education close to their home. Too many children go outside of this area for their schooling. Education in the Forest needs further investment to make sure that all our schools can offer outstanding education to our children.
Transport links need improving and local businesses need encouragement to come to the villages. I would like to see a shop in each village, to serve the local community.
My greatest asset is the ability to listen, I will make myself available to listen to your concerns and will, to the best of my ability act, and assist in reaching a resolution. If I am elected as your Parish Councillor I will work hard to make sure the voice of Ellwood and Sling is heard and your issues made a priority.
